The Premier League was formed on 20 February 1992 and is England's (men's) professional football (soccer) league. The league is made up of 20 clubs (which essentially act as shareholders); these clubs change every year through a system of promotion and relegation (top/bottom 3) with the English Football League (2nd div). The fixtures for the season see each club play 38 matches, where they play each club twice (once at home and once away). Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. Furthermore, teams are ranked by total points, with the highest-ranked club at the end of the season crowned the champion of the league. A total of 49 cubs have competed in the Premier League since its formation in 1992, however, only six clubs have won the title: Manchester United (13), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Manchester City (2), Blackburn Rovers (1) and Leicester City (1). The current (2016/17) champions are Chelsea.

Although the Premier League only features teams from England (and sometimes surrounding regions, such as Wales) it is the most-watched sports league in the world, broadcasting in over 200 territories to 650 million homes and a potential TV audience of approximately 5 billion people. Furthermore, the worlds best players come from all corners of the world to play in arguably the world's most famous and greatest sports league.

The 2017/18 season began on Sat 12 August 2017 with Arsenal taking on Leicester City at Emirates Stadium (Arsenal home) where they won 4-3.
